So because I haven't seen CJ since Spain and a lot of my friends/family have yet to meet him, people are always asking me, "What is your relationship with CJ like? I have never seen you guys together!" Well, this is pretty much it...

SEE YA.

I hope you like Dickens, chickens.

I honestly don't know when/why I turned into a terrible blogger.

Maybe it's because I go to school, go to work, do schoolwork, do homework, do housework, and have loads of fun when I'm not doing any of those other things.

Maybe it's because a lot of the things that have been happening to me are journal things and not really blog things.

Maybe I am no longer funny. (This isn't a real possibility.)

Maybe my blog is no longer my emotional outlet. Maybe instead of getting really sad and blogging about it, I get really sad and burst into tears and blubber about it to my roommates or my mom or really anyone who happens to be in the room.

Anyways, whatever it is, I like my blog still and I am going to keep blogging. Even if it is sporadic.

It's the best of times. It's the worst of times.
I have had a lot of fun in the past few months. I love my roommates, I have friends who aren't my roommates (shocker), my ward is a blast, King Henry is full of wonderful people, I've been on six field trips, I've been to Arches National Park, Salt Lake City, Park City, Cornbelly's, Salem, Spanish Fork, the middle of nowhere, almost Wyoming, Temple Square, and A DATE (you never thought you'd see the day), I love my calling as a Sunday School instructor, I've discovered a love for Sammy's that will never be satisfied no matter how many banana cream pie shakes I eat, and I made pumpkin muffins on Saturday. HOWEVER. I don't have time to run anymore. You may be like half the people I talk to and you may say "You have to make time!" Okay, chap. When you figure out how to MAKE time, you let me know. Because I would love a few extra hours in the day to just run my little heart out. And do not suggest waking up at 5AM, yeah? Just don't. I never see my cousins anymore, and they live like ten minutes away. Showering has become a struggle. It takes too long and I have to get up early to do it. And then my hair is wet. Oh, and laundry. I don't do it. I can't do it. Waaaaaaaahhh wah. Basically, I don't know how to prioritize and I have far too many things to do.

It is the age of wisdom. It is the age of foolishness.
I am learning A LOT in school and I could tell you a million things about the American Revolution but my brain is occupied with so many things that the simplest tasks like...acting like a normal human do not come easily.

I have everything before me. I have nothing before me.
This is how I feel almost 100% of the time. There are so many decisions I am trying to make right now. And I thought I would have a really long time to make them. But suddenly the classes I take next semester depend on what I am going to be doing next fall, as a career, after graduation, et cetera. And I typically don't plan that far in advance. Actually, I don't really plan at all. So this is a little new for me, especially with decisions of this caliber. Mission, internships, graduate school, applying for jobs, graduating in a timely manner, potential weddings (not mine), buying a dog...you know, like, what the hell am I going to do? On the other hand, I have no money, no food, and no clothes. You are probably also going through a similar crisis. Know how I know? Because this is what everyone likes to call "real life" or "the real world." And you are in it, and I am in it. And it is wonderful and terrible. And this is how you get through it:
1. Heavenly Father and Jesus Christ.
2. Mom and Dad.
3. Roommates and best friends.
4. Beyonce.
5. Ice cream. Preferably Tillamook.

What can I get here that has no sugar, no carbs, and is fat free?

Tonight, my job at work was LOBBY.
Which basically means I bus all the tables and wipe them off and sweep the floor. Straight up Cinderella Story H-Duff in the hizzhouse.

So you know how when you go to McDonald's or wherever, the have the garbage cans inside these like things with the swinging door that says TRASH or THANK YOU or something like that? Okay. Same concept. My garbage can is inside this metal cupboard thing but instead of the swinging door, there is just a small hole on the top for me to dump people's garbage in and put their dishes in the dish bin. BECAUSE YOU'RE NOT SUPPOSED TO BUS YOUR OWN TABLE. I WILL BUS YOUR TABLE.

The point of this story is that the garbage got full so I took it in the back to empty it into a bigger garbage can and I come back out two seconds later and this woman is DUMPING the contents of her trays PLURAL into the hole in the top of the metal cupboard that the garbage can goes in. THERE IS NO GARBAGE CAN IN THE CUPBOARD. So after she walked away, I crawled inside the cupboard and cleaned up all of her crap that she basically dumped on the floor. DAMMIT, IIIIII WILL BUS YOUR TABLE DO NOT TRY TO HELP ME DO NOT MOVE YOUR TRAY JUST LEAVE ALL YOUR CRAP ON YOUR FREEEEAKING TABLE AND IIIIII WILL CLEAN IT UP.

The bright side is that I made $7 in tips tonight.
And I went on a date this week and it was fun.
And on the way home from work tonight I got this sundae that I get from Sonic which is a hot fudge sundae without ice cream. So basically hot fudge, whip cream, and oreos. And a cherry which is always disgusting.
And I miss Britton.
The End.

And PS
I want to scream at people when they tell me I can't do something/shouldn't try.

And PPS this song has been EXTREMELY heart-wrenching lately. Don't know why.

6/11/11 13.1 2:44:01 143

Here's the deal. I gotta blog about this before I forget all the lovely details.

I woke up this morning at 3:20 feelin' like P.Diddy. I probably fell asleep around 10 (I couldn't sleep forever) so I felt pretty great. Plus, I was really excited so tiredness was a non-issue. The one problem was I usually poop (sorry...running is graphic) every morning before my run, and when I don't I get what I like to call runner's bum where a few miles into my run I need to go now. Anyway, that was a big concern. I got all my stuff and left the house around 3:40 or so and drove to park my car so that I could get on the shuttle to the starting line. I met two moms who became my pre-race friends and we chatted on the bus. I ate a banana and drank some water. As we were riding up to the start I saw how long the race was and the bus ride felt so long that I got pretty scared...and I noticed a few hills that I was not anticipating. But I was still really stoked. I tried to force myself to poop like three different times, to no avail. Stretched a little, ate my chomps, got my ipod all situated, put my bag in the big yellow truck, and headed over to the start where one of the moms was really good at getting me excited and inspired and shiz.

I knew that adrenaline was taking over my body, so I planned ahead for that and kept things under control and started at my normal pace. The race...was crazy. I couldn't really tell if I was falling behind or passing people but there were people I saw several times throughout the whole thing and I think my pace was pretty consistent. Usually I start out pretty slow and pick it up in the middle, which is what happened today. But then towards the end of the race I started to go really slow. It bugged me a little that it took me so long to finish (2 hrs 44 min and 1 sec) because I am so competitive and I wanted to do it in like ten minute miles so like 2:20:00. I realized while I was running though that to me, time didn't matter so much...I wanted to run the whole way: walking was not an option for me. I have never talked to myself so much in my life. Not out loud, but just in my mind.

Walking is not an option.
The second you start walking, you fail.
YOU DID NOT COME HERE TO WALK. YOU CAME TO RUN.
It would be ridiculous for you to start walking right now. You're halfway done. Easy.
You need to be able to tell dad that you ran the whole way.
The past 6 months will have been a waste of time if you walk.
You already made the decision to run the whole way. It's not your choice now.
If ye are prepared, ye shall not fear. D&C 38:30
Run and not be weary. D&C 89:20
If you start walking right now, you're not allowed to go out tonight and you're not allowed to take a nap or get a pedicure.
This is not even close to the hardest thing you will have to do in your life, so you had better just get over it right now.

And things like that. I said positive things to myself too...haha. I just don't remember them, plus I think they were pretty generic. "You can do it!" and "Jimmer will marry you!"...stuff like that.

I just had to take things 1 mile at a time, that's the only way I got through it. And I have never been so happy to see port-a-potties in my life. Not that I used any of them, but seeing them meant that I had gone 2 miles since the last time I saw them. I tried to be consistent with my water but I kept losing track of it but I stayed pretty hydrated. At the first aid station I accidentally grabbed a cup of Powerade and I thought I was going to throw up. Water only for me, please. I ate chomps at the beginning and at mile 4, but at mile 8 I only ate 2. I could barely stomach them. I burped a ton but I never particularly felt like I was going to throw up.

Once I got out of the canyon, which was like the second half of the race, it got really sunny and hot and long and terrible. At about mile 9 I think, the first place marathoner passed me and I wasn't even mad. He was amazing. This is also the point when my feet started to fall asleep. Out of everything, my feet hurt the most. There was this one lady holding a bunch of signs and one of them said "Got toenails?" and that was when I noticed my toenails...and it was annoying. I didn't know it was possible but my toenails are super sore right now. And I have one blister but I didn't notice it and it doesn't hurt or anything. Once I got to mile 12 I could see the finish line but a minute or so later it was like it got farther away. The last mile was by far the hardest part of the race. I really just wanted to give up, but I also really didn't want to. Running really is battle between your mind and your body and it is a weird feeling.

At about the last .2 miles I turned off my music so I could hear the cheers. That's the best part. I saw my friends waiting for me and cheering me on right by the finish line and I was so happy to see them. There is honestly no better feeling than crossing that finish line. Best feeling in the world. I felt amazing...I can't really describe it.

Then I said a bunch of weird stuff and had water, oranges, pizza, chocolate milk, and a banana creamie. Then when Canyon was driving my car home he had his hand out the window and a bird pooped on his hand and it got inside the car. I think he was mad but we were both cracking up.

Got home, took a bath and a shower, took a nap, watched Friday Night Lights, ate Cafe Rio. Probably going to take another nap. BEST DAY EVER!

This is what I look like now. If you were wondering.
I love her!
And now she is fake crying because I won't let her hold my camera...
"Hi, you've reached Miss Thang. How may I help you?"
"You're my best buddy. I really missed you when you went running." -Mason to me.

Matt Costa Radio on Pandora will make you happy.

I wish you all a wonderful weekend.

BewareTheIdesOfMarch

First things first...Chris Brown is officially crazy. I boycotted him for a while after the Rihanna thing, by which I mean like a year, but then he came out with Yeah 3x and I couldn't resist and now he is friends with JB and they did a song together which I love but then he threw a chair and broke a window and ripped his shirt into shreds at Good Morning America AND I JUST DON'T KNOW WHAT TO BELIEVE.

Today I watched a lotttt of slam poetry on the youtube. Mostly Sarah Kay and one by this black lady who swore a lot but was awesome. I think if all else fails I could probably do spoken word poetry for a living.

Time for a list. 3 things I am going to buy when I get back to America.

1. iPod shuffle. My dinosaur iPod is just not cutting it on the runs. I have to hold it in my hand the whole time and it just gets all sweaty and I feel tempted to change the song.

2. Tangled on DVD. I watched Tangled yesterday and today and I will probably watch it twice tomorrow. And I saw it 3 times in theaters. If you haven't seen it...yeesh. I don't even know. See it as soon as you possibly can because it is perfect! And when Mason watches it occasionally points to Rapunzel and says, "That's Caitlin." Makes my day every time. ALSO I am pretty sure the movie is highly symbolic. But what movie isn't, amIright?

3. HAIR APPOINTMENT. Is anyone going to tell me what to do to my hair? Because I really will walk into the salon and tell them to make me look like Rihanna. Just to warn you.

PossiblyanewswimsuitbutthatwouldbefourthingsandIamtryingnotto
beawhoremongeroraloverofmoneyoranythinglikethatsolet'sjustleavethisasanafterthought.

And to make this post worthwhile, here's some pictures of me in front of some supercool Russian things!

Cathedral of Christ the Savior. SO beautiful inside. Welcome to the ugliest time of the year in Moscow...black slush season.
The Palace of Catherine the Great. My friends Trisha and Janet!
Outside the convent.

Kind of a terrible picture, but this is Moscow State University...one of the most beautiful buildings I have ever laid eyes on! It is AMAZING.

I love you! I will be home in less than a month and I am exciiiiiiiited.

Meow and meow

Obsessed with this song.
I'm not really blogging for reals because I am rekindling and old foreign exchange student flame.
XOXO, Gossip Girl.

Boyband+The UK+Youtube

Please tell me you died laughing at this and you don't really get it. Don't worry...it took me a minute and some Wikipedia to figure it out. Comic Relief 2011. Gotta love them Brits.

And please tell me you love this guy. And also that you said, "What's your name? Hobbie?" Ha. I crack myself up. But really...marry me, Hobbie Stuart. I'll become British for you.

PS The only reason I discovered any of this is because I ran on the treadmill tonight and MTV was on the TV and music videos were playing over and over. It was the run from hell...but the discovery of my new favorite boy band was worth it. And actually, I discover a lot of cool songs that way. Like this one.
And (WARNING: MOSTLY UNRELATED) I really would have loved to see Greyson Chance live in Utah but I will still be in Russia on April 9th. Sad sad Caitlin. So if you have any interest in Cody Simpson or youtube sensation Greyson Chance...you should go. Gah. Maybe I will drive to Los Angeles in May...or something. I just love Greyson Chance, OKAY? Wait but I really actually might cry. Didn't see that coming.

PHYSICAL FITNESS TIP!

You are probably thinking "Why in the world is Caitlin giving me a physical fitness tip?? OF ALL PEOPLE????"

On Monday I ran outside for the first time since I've been in Russia. Some of the snow melted and the weather has been really nice (20ish degrees and sunny never felt so amazing) so I took the opportunity to not run on the treadmill in the muggy basement of the Anglo-American School for once. And it was so awesome. Easier than the treadmill in some ways, harder in other ways, but just so much better overall.

Okay so I was feeling really great after that, but on Tuesday I wanted to do something indoors to keep my momentum up and make me feel like I was still being productive even though it wasn't a running day. So I made a bomb.com playlist on grooveshark, put my hair on top of my head, put on my pink shorts and danced in my room. Keep in mind this was very strategic dancing that included squats, jumping jacks, sun salutation, and kickboxing. (Basically I've been craving a Les Mills class so I attempted to put together what I remember from BodyJam and BodyFlow this past summer.) AAAAAAnyways. I digress. I'm getting to the point.

I wanted to do an abs track like in BodyFlow. McKay loves Bassnectar and I had never heard them before so I went on iTunes, found their most popular song (Bass Head), and put it on my playlist. And miracle of miracles it was the best abs track ever. I don't even have to tell you what exercises to do because you can hear it in the beats. Seriously...do pilates to this song. You will thank me.

And here's my playlist if you feel like dancing.
E.T. ft. Kanye West- Kitty Purry
The Show Goes On- Lupe Fiasco
Yeah 3x- Chris Brown
Stereo Love- Edward Maya & Vika Jigulina
Buzzin' (Remix) ft. 50 Cent- Mann
Best Love Song ft. Chris Brown- T-Pain
Who's That Chick? ft. Rihanna- David Guetta
Boyfriend- Big Time Rush
Power- Kanye West
Dancing Crazy- Miranda Cosgrove
Bass Head- Bassnectar
On The Floor ft. Pitbull- Jennifer Lopez

When I was at Ryder's school this morning two things made me laugh.
1) Boys in his class were arguing about professional soccer. "You said Manchester was the best!" "No, I said I like them but I also like Barcelona!!"
2) Signs on the lockers of kids on the basketball teams that said, "Good luck in Kiev!" and "Good luck in Budapest!" DREAM LIFE.
Only at an International School.

Great songs that you've maybe forgotten about

All Hail the Heartbreaker- The Spill Canvas.

Another Dumb Blonde- Hoku.

Baby Boy- Beyonce ft. Sean Paul.

Bathwater- No Doubt.

Fields of Gold- Sting.

Willy Wonka says "Enjoy!"

Ryan, I love you.

Have you ever known someone to be better at their job than Ryan Seacrest?
I haven't.
Watching him host American Idol is like watching Kobe play ball.
I'm not being facetious.

Have you been watching American Idol? I very very highly recommend watching it because this season is seriously off the chain. Talent. Overload. I look forward to watching it every Thursday and Friday morning on DVR. We have a huge blast.

If you haven't been watching, it is not too late. In fact, the season has just begun. This week they chose the top 24 contestants, and although some people I really loved didn't make it this far, I have my favorites. Here we go.

Casey Abrams. Amazing. I would buy his album 100 times. #1 favorite, and the best musician in the competition. SOoOoOoO JaZzY AnD ArTsYfArTsY I LoVe.

Paul McDonald. Sexy. I want him to marry V...he's just her type. Oh na na na na.

Thia Megia. Beautiful, wonderfully unique, and only 16 years old! Girl's got PYPEZ.

Robbie Rosen. Nom nom nom gimme dat nose.

I used to really love Lauren Alaina but she gets more annoying by the second so we'll see if I like her once the live stuff starts. Jacob Lusk is obviously amazing but I would't buy his album. What would his album even be like? I have no idea. He's crazy.

PS The new judges are awesome and PPS this guy is Casey Garland's doppelganger.
And I bet you my mom predicted all of my favorites!!

Plan to be surprised

I feel a little stressed. I thought I had all my plans for moving back to Provo laid out, but things have gone a little differently than I wanted them to...And it's going to be okay. I just decided. In this moment I have resolved to stop freaking out and just let the good times roll in Moscow.

BUT. My elbows are truly itching to bake. Baking is my emotional outlet. Usually when I get in the mood, I drop everything (like homework), run to the store to pick up whatever extras I need, and whisk myself away to the wonderful fantasy world that is my kitchen. Today I'm not so lucky. I'm far from the grocery store, and it's not like they have the ingredients I need anyway. The brown sugar in the cabinet is obscure and rock solid, and I don't have a hand mixer...so. There you go.

It also doesn't help that in my spare time I enjoy browsing food blogs. The inspiration I find is remarkable: woopie pies, chocolate chip cookies with an oreo inside, browned butter brownies, crumb cakes, copy-cat recipes for Samoas...mmmmmmmm. Hopefully when I return to the promised land all my baking dreams will be fulfilled. For now I will listen to the good karma playlist on www.stereomood.com and occupy myself with books and writing to curb my cravings.

Here's a few words about plans from a movie I truly cannot stand to watch, Dan in Real Life. It's a good quote.

"I want to talk to you about the subject of plans...life plans and how we all make them, and how we hope our kids make good, smart, safe plans of their own. But if we're really honest with ourselves, most of our plans don't work out as we had hoped. So instead of asking our young people, 'What are your plans? What do you plan to do with your life?', maybe we should tell them this: Plan...to be surprised."

25. A first.

The first time I played the Wii was at Jodi's house...and I was terrible at it, but it was really fun because our friends were there. We had the coolest friends. The end.

In other news, I really love this song. Soo catchy and I just kinda smile and groove and listen to it over and over again. But I try to sing along with the spelling part and I just end up spelling...LIFGEOESON. I wish my mouth would have spelled something more revealing...like a secret my brain has been keeping from me.

I hope you are all having a blast in America. Happiest place on earth.

What's not to like?

This is all the goodness in the world harnessed into 3 and a half minutes.

There are 2,507 dislikes for this video. WHAT IS WRONG WITH PEOPLE.

People hate Justin Bieber and people hate puppies, and I guess that's why I will never understand humanity.

PS What do you consider to be the American dream...?

Happy Sunday.

I have so much to do this week, but for now I will bask in the gloriousness that is Sunday...do nothing for school, make the world a better place, and laugh at Charlotte skyping her family. And not go outside because the weather is TERRIBLE. And look at the Christmas lights. Meeeooowwwww.

Sukas and Such

1. My self-defense class has become a waste of time. I've learned basically everything I need to know, and now they're just dragging it out so it takes up a semester. Twist and fling, baby. Twist and fling.

2. A couple nights ago I made the best chocolate chip cookies ever. I didn't have one until breakfast the next morning (typical Stanfield fashion) and I was astounded. I was even a little mad that the people who were eating them last night weren't 100 times more complimentary. I used to think that there wasn't much to baking...you just follow a recipe. But, I think that even if someone else followed the exact same recipe I did for those cookies, they probably wouldn't be as good. Nyeh heh heh. I wish I could take a picture of them like a proper blogger but I don't have a camera...?

3. It is WAY too cold. I keep having to wear my Roxy coat I got in like the seventh grade because I left my cute peacoat at home. My mom keeps trying to get me to get rid of the Roxy coat but I just won't...even though it is denim and lumberjack-ish and ridiculous.

4. I'm on a Weezer kick. I think they're really awesome. I will sing Weezer to my babies. Mostly...this one.

5. 16 & Pregnant...so much to say about this show. To quote Kenz, "The girls on this show are all the same type of girl...like, the pink and black." SO TRUE. The pink and black girls. But I always have mixed emotions when I watch it because I want them to be happy and whatever but the dad usually sucks. So. I would like to do a study based solely on episodes of 16 & Preg. Also, what is the difference between this show and Teen Mom? One they're pregnant and one the baby is born? I guess. I don't know.

6. I'm not going to Las Vegas anymore...blah blah blah school sucks!

7. I WANT NAMES. Has anyone ever said, "People are pretty pissed at you" or "From what I've heard from people" to you? I would just like to relay to you something John Mayer said. "Until you get someone in your face telling you that you suck, you don't suck." So...that's what I mean. Don't tell me that "people" have said this and this and this about me. I want names, suka. (That's soooookah, not suhkah. It's Russian.)

8. I haven't picked at/peeled/bitten my nails in a really long time and they are so pretty and not bleeding! Yay, me.

9. It doesn't snow in Peru......?

10. I want it to be summer again so I can read books that aren't Tocqueville or PHYSICAL SCIENCE TEXTBOOK. Not that I read the latter, really.

11. "When everybody is somebody, nobody is anybody."

12. I haven't watched Glee in weeks, and I don't really care to. Is that bad?

13. This post sucks. You don't!

Taylor Swift-Innocent

I guess you really did it this time
Left yourself in your warpath
Lost your balance on a tightrope
Lost your mind tryin' to get it back

Wasn't it easier in your lunchbox days?
Always a bigger bed to crawl into
Wasn't it beautiful when you believed in everything?
And everybody believed in you?

It's all right, just wait and see
Your string of lights is still bright to me
Oh, who you are is not where you've been
You're still an innocent
You're still an innocent

Did some things you can't speak of
But tonight you'll live it all again
You wouldn't be shattered on the floor now
If only you had seen what you know now then

Wasn't it easier in your firefly-catchin' days?
And everything out of reach, someone bigger brought down to you
Wasn't it beautiful runnin' wild 'til you fell asleep?
Before the monsters caught up to you?

It's all right, just wait and see
Your string of lights is still bright to me
Oh, who you are is not where you've been
You're still an innocent

It's okay, life is a tough crowd
32, and still growin' up now
Who you are is not what you did
You're still an innocent

Time turns flames to embers
You'll have new Septembers
Every one of us has messed up too

Lives change like a weather
I hope you remember
Today is never too late to
Be brand new

It's all right, just wait and see
Your string of lights are still bright to me
Oh, who you are is not where you've been
You're still an innocent

It's okay, life is a tough crowd
32, and still growin' up now
Who you are is not what you did
You're still an innocent
You're still an innocent

Lost your balance on a tightrope
It's never too late to get it back

One of my favorite songs on the album. Some of her best and most mature writing, I think. Love love love.

October 21, 2010

I've been listening to whole albums recently, which I don't usually do. LISTEN when I say that you need to stop what you're doing and listen to the new Kings of Leon album, Come Around Sundown. I like KOL anyway, but this album is really very good. I also listened to Sara Bareilles' and Maroon 5's new ones about a week ago, and they were pretty good, but I really like can't stop listening to Come Around Sundown. (There's an F word in No Money, but otherwise, yeah. Kosher.)

Spill on the streets of stars
And ride away
Find out what you are
Face to face
Once you've had enough
Carry on
Don't forget to love
'Fore you're gone.
